The new Vintage

Distress Vintage Dresser
Louis XVI wood commode reproduction . .Price  $2,550. Angus & Company.

This is actually a reproduction of something you may find at the flea market. This piece comes pre-distressed, but it looks authentically aged. I love how liveable it is — there’s no worrying about dings and dents. Reproductions are great when you really cannot find the exact piece you want at antique fairs or flea markets.

An antique or vintage piece will cost a fraction of the reproduction piece and will only increase in value if taken well care of.  It may take some time to find the right vintage piece you are looking for but it is well worth the hunt and a lot more fun.

Let's compare....

Gotta love it!

The new Vintage????

The two chairs featured in the photographs below are called "intentionally deconstructed upholstery". I really do not know anyone who would keep such a piece in their home, or would they!?

Ran out of funds..ran out of material..could not afford to pay the upholster. I have visions of individuals running down a crowded sidewalk with thier unfinished pieces and an angry upholster in hot pursuite of them. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING WHEN THEY DESIGNED THESE PIECES.

When replicas or reproductions are designed, they are created to resemble a vintage  piece. I cannot help but wonder what the inspiration was for these two pieces. But to each his own. Design is a very individualized and personal thing.
Gotta love it!

  2. Design tastes are very unique and individual. But I'm constantly shocked by what others view as good design - the "deconstructed" chairs above are prime examples. Although, I must admit, I could live with the second one. As you say, "To each his own."
